Sam Riggleman
(1991-94)
Sam Riggleman guided SIU
to a 82-114-1 record over
four years. During his term,
he led the Salukis to one
Missouri Valley Conference
Tournament appearance in
his first year as head coach.
Assistant coach Ken Henderson took over head
coaching duties for the final 20 games of the 1994
season during which time the team won 12 and lost
eight.

Ken Henderson
(2011-Present)
Ken Henerson was named
the seventh head coach in
SIU baseball history on July
8, 2011 after serving as the
interim head coach for the
Salukis in 2011. He also went
12-8 as interim head coach in
1994. Henderson has been a member of the Saluki
coaching staff since the 1991 season and served the
role of associate head coach from 1993-2010.

Dan Callahan
(1995-2010)
Dan Callahan was Southern’s
coach for 16 seasons before
his untimely passing to a rare
from of skin cancer took him
away from the Salukis. He is
the second-winningest coach
in school history. On April
3, 2010, Callahan became the fifth coach in MVC
history to win 200 league games. He guided the
Salukis to back-to-back MVC runner-up finishes in
2003 and 2004 and led SIU to six 30-win seasons.

William McAndrew
(1921-24)
William McAndrew, the re-
vered father of SIU’s athletic
program, was its first baseball
coach. He coached baseball
as a club sport for four years
from 1921-24. Records from
those first two seasons cannot
be traced, but his last two teams combined for a 20-6
record.

Joe Lutz
(1966-69)
SIU’s baseball program
reached new heights under
the direction of Joe Lutz.
In just four years at the
helm, Lutz led the Salukis
to four NCAATournaments,
two College World Series
and a runner-up finish at the 1968 CWS. Following
the 1969 season, Lutz joined the Cleveland Indi-
ans organization and became the first base coach
in 1971. In 1974, Lutz became the first Caucasian
manager in Japan’s major leagues when he skip-
pered the Hiroshima Carp.

Richard “Itchy” Jones
(1970-90)
Richard “Itchy” Jones took
over as SIU’s head coach in
1970. While at the helm of
the Saluki baseball program,
Jones led the Salukis to
three College World Series
appearances and compiled a
738-345-5 record. Jones left SIU to take over as
head coach at the University of Illinois, where he
coached 15 years. He retired following the 2005
season.

Glenn “Abe”Martin
(1947-65)
Glenn “Abe” Martin revived
the program in 1947 after a
23-year lapse in which there
was no baseball program.
Martin coached for 19 years
and laid the foundation of a
program that was destined to
become one of the finest in the land. Martin coached
SIU to its first 20-win season (26-8) in 1959, and
to two NAIATournaments. He was also the initiator
of SIU’s deliberate approach to playing the game.
