Clete McLeod, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, returned
to his alma mater in 2011 as the head strength and conditioning coach for
Southern Illinois.
Prior to returning to Carbondale, McLeod spent four years (2008-11) at
Oregon State, where he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach
working with the Beavers football team. He was also directly in charge of
training programs for women’s basketball and men’s soccer in addition to
overseeing golf, women’s gymnastics, women’s cross country, and women’s
soccer.
He also developed and instructed team nutrition presentations for all
programs at OSU and coordinated private nutrition assessments for athletes
with on-campus registered dieticians. In addition, McLeod served as the
Sports Nutrition Chair of the Oregon Chapter of the National Strength and
Conditioning Association.
McLeod received both his undergraduate and master’s degree at SIU while
working in the weight room as a graduate assistant from 2001-03 under head
strength coach Eric Klein. He earned a dual bachelor’s degree in exercise
science and nutrition while receiving his master’s in exercise physiology.
McLeod has impressive credentials in strength and conditioning including
a stint in the U.S. Army stationed in Ft. Benning, Ga. from 1992-94.
Since returning to Southern, he had the football team read the Marine
Corps fighting manual to learn about preparation and leadership.
He also worked for Velocity Sport Performance in Naperville, Ill. from
2004-06 while taking over duties as the assistant strength and conditioning
coach in charge of baseball and softball at Northern Illinois in 2006. McLeod
then spent one season at Southeast Missouri State as the head of strength and
conditioning from 2007-08.
McLeod, a native of Assumption, Ill., resides in Carterville with his wife,
Poppy.
The 2013 season is Cory Warren’s second season on Dale Lennon’s staff,
serving as a graduate assistant in charge of the team’s outside linebackers. In
2012 he worked with outside linebacker Jayson DiManche who recorded 8.0
sacks, tied for second most in the conference, and earned second-team All-
MVFC honors before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Warren played collegiately at Kansas State in 2006 and 2007 and was
recognized as an Academic All-American in 2007 and named a Construction
Crew player of the week in 2006.
He was a member of the Wildcats 2006 Texas Bowl team. A back injury
cut short Warren’s career, and he transitioned into a student-assistant coach
at K-State (2008-10), where he mentored various positions on defense under
head coach Bill Snyder. The 2010 team advanced to the New Era Pinstripe
Bowl. Warren graduated from KSU with a degree in family studies and human
services.
In 2011, Warren coached the offensive line at Hutchinson Community
College, leading the Dragons to a 9-3 record and winning the Salt City Bowl.
The team finished ranked No. 9 in the nation.
He and his wife Kris were married in June 2013.
The 2013 season is John Roy’s first season as a graduate assistant for
Coach Lennon. Roy joined the program as a strength graduate assistant and
now serves as the team’s video coordinator.
Prior to his time at SIU, he spent two years coaching tight ends at his
alma mater, Southern Oregon University. In 2012, Southern Oregon led the
nation in offense, capturing the Frontier Conference title and advancing to the
second round of the NAIA playoffs for the first time in a decade.
Roy played two seasons as an offensive lineman at SOU and was an All-
Conference selection his senior year. He also spent a year at Oregon State and
was a member of the Beavers’ 2008 team that played in the Sun Bowl. He
began his college career at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz.

with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education.
