SALUKI NOTEBOOK
Eight starters return on Offense
The Salukis return eight starters and 17
total letterwinners on offense. The returning
starters are highlighted by All-American TE
MyCole Pruitt (team-high 49 receptions and
577 yards). He has been named a second-
team preseason All-American by The Sports
Network
and
Phil Steele Magazine
.
Senior QB Kory Faulkner is also returning.
He completed 58.7 percent of his passes for
1,865 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2012. He
has started the last 18 games for SIU and will
be joined by returning FB Ray Agnew in the
backfield.
The Salukis have added depth at running
back. In addition to Mika’il McCall, who
started four games last year, SIU has added
three transfers with Malcolm Agnew (Oregon
State), Ken Malcome (Georgia) and Tay Willis
(Highland CC).
SIU returns two wide receivers with John
Lantz (26 receptions) and LaSteven McKinney
(43 receptions, 9.0 yards/punt return).
McKinney was a second-team All-Conference
selection as a wide receiver/return specialist
in 2012.
The offensive line returns four of five starters
from the end of last season with RT Victor
Craven, C Tanner Crum, LG Nate Haremza
and LT Ethan Wirth.
Defense returns five starters
Five starters return on defense for Southern
Illinois. The Salukis will have to replace the
entire defensive line, as all three starters were
seniors in 2012.
Two of the four starting linebackers return.
ILB Bryan Presume returns after leading the
team with 78 tackles and recording 2.0 sacks.
OLB Cory Lee (36 tackles, 1 FR) is also back.
OLB Tyler Williamson figures to make an
impact after earning MVFC All-Newcomer
and Defensive Player of the Week honors in
2012.
Cornerback Terrell Wilson (5 career INT) is
a three-year starter. SIU will have experience
at safety. D.J. Cameron (2 INT) started 10
games, and Luke Thuston (35 tackles) started
six. In addition, former UCLA transfer Anthony
Thompson (1 INT, 1 FF, 1 FR) returns for his
second season. Boo Rodgers also returns after
redshirting in 2012. He was a starter in 2011
when he had 1 INT and 5 breakups.
Special Teams
Punter Austin Pucylowski (40.2 yards/punt,
23 punts inside the 20) is back after an All-
MVFC honorable mention season in 2012.
Austin Johnson (7-of-12 FG) and Thomas
Kinney will compete for the place kicker role.
Five Academic All-Americans
Southern Illinois has had five players earn
CoSIDA Academic All-America status in the
last four seasons. Safety Mike McElroy was a
second team selection in 2009. In 2010, SIU
tied Penn State for the nation’s lead with three
Academic All-Americans (WR Joe Allaria, DE
Chance Coda, OT David Pickard). Pickard
was a repeat winner in 2011.
In addition, the Salukis have placed
seven players on the FCS Athletic Directors
Association Academic All-Star Team in the last
four years. Ryan Kernes and Ryan Patton each
earned the honor in 2009, Coda and Pickard
were named to the 2010 team, and Pickard
repeated along with McElroy in 2011. Austin
Pucylowski took home the honor in 2012.

99-Straight Weeks in the Top 25
The Southern Illinois football team set the
MissouriValley Football Conference record by
being ranked in the Top 25 for 99 consecutive
weeks. The streak started on Sept. 8, 2003
(No. 23 in the coaches poll and No. 21 in the
media poll). It lasted until
Oct. 18, 2010, when the
Salukis dropped out of the
top 25. Southern was last
ranked in 2011 when it
began the season ranked
No. 19 in the preseason
and stayed in the polls
the first five weeks of the
season.
Fourteen All-Americans
Southern Illinois has
had 14 First-Team All-
Americans over the last 11
seasons. Of those 14, five
have been running backs.
Tailback Arkee Whitlock
(2005 and 2006) and CB
Korey Lindsey (2009 and
2010) are two of three
players in school history
to be named a First-Team
All-American in back-to-
back seasons. Lindsey,
who was a Third-Team
All-American in 2008,
is one of two players in
school history, along with
Alexis Moreland (2002-
04), to garner All-America
accolades in three separate
seasons.
1983 National Champions
It was the year that the
Southern Illinois University
football team put together a dominating and
magical run to take the Division I-AA National
Championship. After narrowly missing an
undefeated regular-season with a loss to
Division I-A Wichita State in the regular-
season finale, the Dawgs marched through
the playoffs, outscoring their three opponents
by an average of 23 points, capped by a 43-7
thrashing of Western Carolina in the National
Championship game. The Salukis finished that
campaign with a sparkling 13-1 record, the
best mark in SIU history.
46-9 at Home Since 2003
Southern Illinois has compiled a 46-9
(.836) record at home in regular-season games
since 2003. Included in that streak is a 29-8
record in Missouri Valley Football Conference
games. If you add in home playoff games, the
Salukis are 50-13 (.794) overall since 2003.

As of July 31, Southern Illinois has six
former players in NFL camps this fall — LB
Bart Scott (New York Jets), DE Ken Boatright
