Missed the first seven weeks of the season
rehabbing from shoulder surgery...Made
his first appearance on April 13 at Dallas
Baptist, throwing a scoreless inning with one
strikeout...Threw a total of 7.1 innings in
seven relief appearances...Did not record any
decisions...Allowed just one earned run in his
first four appearances...Pitched a season-high
2.2 innings against Saint Louis.

Redshirted after undergoing surgery on his
shoulder in early January.

Weld’s 29 appearances were the second
most on the team and the second most by a
freshman in the Missouri Valley Conference...
Led the team with five victories and posted
a 5-4 record...Finished the year with a 5.68
ERA with a team-leading 57 strikeouts
against 22 walks...Threw 58.2 innings, which
was the second-most on the team...Recorded
two saves...His first four appearances were
games he started, and he then moved into
the set-up role in the Saluki bullpen...His 12
appearances in MVC games led the team and
was the fifth-most among all Valley pitchers...
Picked up his first career win by throwing 4.2

Welch led Bernie High School to three district
finals, a district championship in 2009 and a
52-18 record in the first three seasons of his
prep career...Was a three-time All-District
and All-Conference selection and was All-
State as a freshman, junior and senior...Hit
.571 in 2009 with nine home runs, 40 runs
scored and 22 extra-base hits as a junior...Was
also a four-year letterwinner in basketball,
where he led Bernie High School to two
district championships and a state runner
up in 2010 with a 28-5 record...Was named
Defensive Player of the Year in his basketball
