Andre Scott
Jumps Coach
Ninth Year
Auburn (‘98)
Andre Scott is in his ninth season at Southern Illinois as the
jumps coach. In his time with the Salukis, Scott’s jumpers
have improved on the school records and helped the Salukis
win the 2009 Indoor and Outdoor Missouri Valley Conference
Championships as well as the women’s 2005 MVC Indoor
title.
The 2012 season saw continued success from Southern’s
jumpers, as Kenya Culmer broke two high jump records,
Malaikah Love finished her storied SIU career on a high note
with three MVC individual championships, and Dougie Pala-
cious was named an honorable mention All-American for the
outdoor season after his own MVC crown in the long jump.
The 2011 season was kicked off by Malaikah Love winning
the triple jump at the MVC Indoor Championships. Love also
received All-MVC recognition in the long jump and triple
jump. Maxim Bakana was also named an All-MVC performer
in the triple jump for indoor and outdoor season.
Malaikah Love continued her successful season by winning
the triple and long jump at the MVC Outdoor Championships.
Love, Kenya Culmer and Kasey Oceguera each were named
All-MVC honorees for their efforts in the outdoor season.
Culmer and Love also each qualified for the NCAA Regionals
under Scott’s direction.
The 2010 season was another successful year for Scott, who
coached Malaikah Love to the MVC indoor championship in
the long jump and led two NCAA Regional qualifiers in Love
and Kasey Oceguera (high jump). In addition, Maxim Bakana
earned all-MVC honors at the conference indoor and outdoor
championships.
Love added to her accolades in 2010 by breaking the SIU
record in the triple jump with a mark of 42-06.25.
In 2009, Scott led standout long jumper Bianca Stuart to her
second all-America honor in as many years. Stuart placed
fourth at the indoor NCAA Championships in College Station,
Texas. She recorded a leap of 21-02.00 at the NCAA Champi-
onships and two weeks earlier she won the MVC Champion-
ship with a season-best mark of 21-06.25.
In Stuart’s four years under Scott’s tutelage, she won seven
MVC titles in the long jump, broke the school-record an
impressive seven times and still stands as the Missouri Valley
Conference’s all-time record holder in the event. She also
helped the Saluki team in the spring by running a leg on the
4x100m relay and the 100m dash, where her best time was
11.88. Stuart’s triple jump of 40-04.00 scored points for the
Salukis in 2009.
Malaikah Love broke the SIU outdoor record in the triple
jump with a NCAA Regional and Junior National qualify-
ing leap of 41-10.00 in 2009. That same year, Scott also led
Maxim Bakana to the NCAA regional’s where he placed 14th
overall.
In Scott’s time at Southern Illinois, he has also coached NCAA
Regional Qualifiers Antwon Stapleton in the triple jump (51-
08.00), Freddy Rule in the high jump (7-01.50), Kenen Shadd
in the triple jump (51-11.00) and Inna Turevsky in the triple
jump (41-07.00).
Scott came to Southern Illinois after spending two seasons
as the jumps coach at Pittsburgh. There he coached one all-
American, two Big East and Eastern College Athletic Confer-
ence (ECAC) triple jump champions and four NCAA Regional
qualifiers.
Since 2000, Scott has coached seven professional athletes,
including his wife, Colleen Scott, a triple and long jumper for
Jamaica. Scott has also coached Trecia Smith, the current Ja-
maican national record holder, who finished fourth at the 2004
Athens Olympic Games.
Prior to 2000, Scott spent a year as a volunteer coach at his
alma mater, Auburn, where he was a seven-time all-American
triple jumper and three-time SEC champion as both a jumper
and a sprinter.
Scott graduated from Auburn in 1998 with a Bachelor’s of
Science degree in health promotion. He and his wife reside in
Carbondale with their son, Sterling.
