2001-02 Milestones
•Finished the season ranked No. 22 in the Coaches Poll, first national
ranking since 1976-77 season.
•Most wins in school history (28).
•Tied for the regular-season MVC title, first league title since 1991-92.
•Tied school record for conference wins (14).
•Undefeated at home (13-0) for just sixth time in school history and first
time since 1992-93 season.
•Beat two ranked teams, #23 Georgia and #22 Indiana.
•Defeated teams from major conferences such as Conference USA, Big
Twelve, Big Ten, and SEC.
•Defeated six teams that played in the NCAA Tournament, including
NCAA Championship runner-up Indiana.
•Earned first at-large bid to NCAA Tournament in school history.
•Had first sell-out crowd at SIU Arena in 12 years.
•Held opponents to 40.3 percent shooting from the field, lowest since
the 1967-68 season.
•Had two players named First Team All-MVC.
•Had the MVC “Newcomer of the Year” , “Defensive Player of the Year”
and runner-up for “Player of the Year”.
•Were featured in newspapers such as USA Today and the New York
Times, on television networks such as ESPN, FOX and CNN, and on
radio sports talk shows throughout the country.
