J
ustin Ingram rejuvenated Southern Illinois
volleyball in his first season at the helm, leading
the Salukis to their first 20-win season since 2002,
including a trip to the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference
Championships.
Ingram was named the seventh head coach in
program history on Jan. 18, 2012, bringing 13 years
of Division I coaching experience to Carbondale.
In his first season, Ingram guided the Salukis to
a 21-9 overall record with a fourth-place 11-7 mark
in the league. Three Salukis were named first-team
All-MVC selections and one a Capital One Academic
All-American.
The Salukis kicked off their banner season with a
9-0 homestand, recording their longest winning stretch
since 1994. Southern Illinois also snapped a 19-match
losing streak against Creighton on Sep. 28 and were
the only Valley team to defeat the Bluejays during the
2012 season.
Under Ingram’s direction, SIU finished the 2012
season ranked second in the MVC in blocks, third in
assists, and fourth in hitting percentage. Senior Bailey
Yeager broke the single-season digs record, recording
a total of 630 digs. Sophomore setter Amy Drabant
recorded 1,178 assists to rank 10th all-time in assists
in a single season and senior Laura Thole recorded
1,212 attempts to rank second all-time in a single
season.
Prior to SIU, Ingram spent three years as the
head coach at Arkansas State, where he led the Red
Wolves to an overall record of 60-33 and was named
2011 Sun Belt Coach of the Year.
Ingram led ASU to a 21-10 record and the team’s
third-consecutive Sun Belt West Division title during the
